As I can't think of anything except my backpacking trip to Tasmania which starts later this week, the fresh desktop calendar features an image from my last year's hike in Australian Snowy Mountains. The Rams Head plateau is located a few kilometres south of Australian tallest mountain (Mount Kosciuszko, 2228m) and offers stunning scenery over grassy flats mixed with impressive granite boulders and rocky outcrops. Despite its close location to an extremely popular walking track, there are not many people who decide to take a side walk and visit this remarkable place, making it even more attractive. Different images require a different amount of work to get it right. Some are just point and shoot, some work well with a stack of filters in front of the camera, others require some creative post processing, but some special cases will squeeze an extra mile from you. The moment I came to this location I knew that I wanted to shoot this mountain with reflection, the problem was that I couldn't get a nice one without going into the water ... freezing cold water. Believe me, those "icebergs" are floating there for a reason. I tried couple times, but couldn't stand it for more than 20 seconds - it was burning cold. Fortunately I had some time before the sunset to come up with The Solution. For the next hour people were pointing at me fingers and joking, but I kept collecting reasonably sized rocks and stayed focused on the construction. At the end, I was standing with my tripod on the tip of the narrow 2.5m long rock "bridge". Needless to say that moments after I finished my work I was approached by some people asking to take a shot from there. I’ve seen many waterfalls since I seriously got into photography - many of them were small and dry, others were completely covered with moss, some were among tallest in the world, but the truth is that I hadn’t seen frozen waterfall before visiting Jägala Falls in Estonia in winter last year....

I’ve been shooting a lot of seascapes lately and feel that I need to interrupt this constant flow of "rocks in the water" images with something dry. The image I chose for the new calendar wallpaper presents an iconic view of the Flinders Ranges (South Australia) – Bunyeroo Valley from Razorback Lookout.
